So far, my repping journey has been all about the Summer. First year, I just didn’t apply for Winter and second year went tits up when I got a placement and Ash didn’t. Therefore, the past two Winters have been spent in the UK and we knew we definitely wanted to work this Winter.
Don’t get me wrong, I am so grateful for the time I spent at home but this year, we were totally in favour of a Winter placement. As we hail from two different countries, spending time together can be expensive and also difficult, especially when you are living under other people’s feet. Our placement application came out at the end of July so we have been waiting for over a month for the news. Winter work is never guaranteed but with both myself and Ash getting great scores this season, we were very hopeful that we would get something.
For our choices, we put down Cape Verde, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote.
We got…
GRAN CANARIA!
This will be our first experience in Gran Canaria (except that time we stopped re-fuel after being evacuated from Gambia). We’ve spent time within the Canary Islands before having started our relationship in Tenerife but Gran Can is undiscovered territory for us. I’m expecting a similar vibe to Tenerife and excited to whack the Spanish back out but I also hope that the island itself is very different to Tenerife and that there will be lots to explore.
Winter is usually split into two halfs to give more reps the chance at Winter work. To give us more options, we put down that we were flexible and just waited to see what we were offered. We have been offered second half Winter with the contract starting January 3rd. This means we will be home for Christmas and New Year which is always nice.
I’m expecting to leave Cyprus no later than November 2nd so that gives two months to fill with plans, seeing family and hopefully some adventures.
Time to get planning…

You could always work high season if you were interested whilst at uni. There is a guy on our team at the moment who is at uni and he’s just working July-September x
