Today is the day that placements opened. You’re bombarded with a bucket load of information about Winter opportunities and Summer destinations and have only 4 days to do your research and decide on what you want to do and where you want to be for the next year. They say the team makes the season, not the destination and in part, that is true but you still don’t want to end up somewhere rubbish. Particularly when you have a wanderlust heart, the location needs to make you smile too. Big decisions like this have never come easy to me. Even with the smallest choices, I am the most indecisive person ever so the bigger ones take even more time and effort. For example, my degree. I started looking at universities and courses in Year 10 when I couldn’t even apply until Year 13! Yet, numerous break times, you could find me in the careers offices browsing through brochures and rewriting my top three over and over. So giving me only 4 days to decide my next year is tricky but that is just how the rep game is played.
This year, I have new things to take into consideration. A year ago, I sadly ruled out any destination with driving positions only whereas this year, they would be an option to me. The other change is that for this Summer, I only had to think about myself but applying for the next, I now come in a pair. We have a lot of discussing to do and need to make sure we make a decision that is right for both of us. In him, I’ve found my travel companion so I’m sure we will easily come to an agreement. As long as we’re together and exploring some part of the world, we will be great.
For Winter, I have had my heart set on Lapland since last Summer. It was the only Winter destination I wanted to apply for but it was kid’s club reps only. However, my friend put it down as a space filler and magically got it. Ever since, Lapland has been on my mind for Winter 2016. Last year, we could only apply for Winter and didn’t get a choice over whether we wanted first half or second half. I haven’t looked at the application form yet but supposedly this year, we have a choice. I would only really want to work Lapland for first half so would probably put it down as my only option. For second half, I’m not quite as bothered about spending time at home as it’s after Christmas so I will probably put down a couple of options. I’d also be interested in being a course rep for the new recruitments and I’d also like to work a conference so they will also be going down as options.
For Summer, I’m open. I don’t know where I want to go and I’m happy to try anything. Tonight, we’re going to sit down, look at the destination profiles and decide where we want to spend the next year of our lives.
Who knows where we will end up next…
All opinions are my own and just that: opinions.
