If you’re looking for Ibiza but have found yourself on the wrong island and landed in Tenerife, Monkey Beach Club is where you will find Ibiza. Now, I’ve never actually been to Ibiza but my evening at Monkey Beach Club is what I imagine Ibiza to be like.
We were invited down to Monkey Beach Club for promotional purposes as now their events are something that we sell. We were provided with free tickets to their Absolut party which entitled us to the entry which usually costs 25€ plus a free mojito. I don’t know what it is about Tenerife but all of a sudden, I have a massive obsession with mojito’s so I was all game.
By day, Monkey Beach Club is a nice place to relax with a drink and a bite to eat with good views over the beach front onto the Atlantic Ocean. By night, however it is a full on outdoor nightclub.
Now the reasons why I felt like it was Ibiza were because the second we walked through the entrance, we were met with a sea of beautiful people followed by the kick to the teeth that we cannot afford to spend the entire evening in this joint. After our free mojito, other drinks were extortionate. Vodka and lemonade… 7.50€!! Thankfully for me, mojito’s were the only bargain of the night at 12€ for a pint. Unfortunately, not everyone in the troop is quite the lover so it was set to be an expensive night for them.
The entire evening consisted of dance beats and I need some Taylor Swift in my life. I love a good sing and dance but in this scene, you couldn’t. Men were walking round dressed as a weird cross between Borat and LMFAO, some even in full morph suits and even one fully painted as a rainbow Absolut bottle. The dancers had a severe case of resting bitch face and while the intention was for them to be sexy, they honestly just looked bored. Plus, the later it got, the more crowded it got and I’m not a fan of pushing my way through crowds and being bumped into constantly.
The combination of overpriced drinks, lack of dance-able music and the crowd drove us away just as the night was getting started around 9pm. Monkey Beach Club wasn’t for me but people who love the Ibiza scene and feel will probably fall head over heels. Everyone else there seemed to be loving life but it just wasn’t our scene so we instead headed to our beloved Veronica’s strip for 2€ juicee’s, cheesy tunes and drinks deals. We made the right choice, we had a great night!
All opinions are my own and just that: opinions.
