A-Z OF MINDFUL POSITIVITY

Happy International Day of Calm! I didn’t even know this was a thing until today so I thought it was perfect day for this post.

Living a calm life does so much good for both your physical and mental wellbeing whilst bringing happiness and contentment into your life. Let’s be honest though, it’s not always easy to have a calm mindset. Life gets crazy, life gets stressful and suddenly, calm is a million miles away.

One thing that has really helped bring calm to my life is practising mindfulness. Being mindful has brought positivity into my life and has really calmed my head a lot. Why not explore some of this alphabet and see if practising mindfulness can help bring calm to your life?

Affirmations Nothing cheesy like standing in front of a mirror saying you love yourself (although if you wanna do that, go for it) but thinking positive thoughts. We are so quick to put ourselves down but not to lift ourselves up. Instead of thinking you can’t do it, tell yourself you can. Instead of noticing your imperfections, point out your great butt.

Breathe When things get stressful, just take a moment to breathe. By stopping in that moment and focusing on your breathe, you will find you re-centre yourself.

Calm Something that has been great for my mindful journey is the Calm app. This fantastic app includes meditation, sleep stories and positive, calming music which all really help to relax.

De-stress If you’re stressed, don’t let it build up until you explode. Take the time to de-stress. Whether that be enjoying a bubble bath, taking a walk or disconnecting, do whatever it takes to de-stress yourself.

Energy What you put into world is what you attract so make sure your energy reflects this. Your positive energy will attract positive energy.

Focus We’re all guilty of multi-tasking and have habits of lacking in focus. By focusing on each task at hand, you find yourself staying in the present moment. The present moment is the only one which matters. Yesterday is gone and who knows what will happen tomorrow, the only thing you can control is the present so don’t let it pass you by.

Gratitude It’s so easy to take life for granted but we have so much to be grateful for. Expressing this gratitude lifts your spirits and highlights the beauty of life, the world, people and moments. Not every day is a good day but there is something good in every day. By being grateful of even the small things helps you not to dwell on the negativity and begin/end each day positive.

Hydrate If you are dehydrated then so is your mind and you will struggle, finding yourself in a slump. Hydration boosts energy levels leading to increased positivity.

Independance Whilst partners, family and friends are amazing and can add a lot of value to your life, you need to remember that they do not define you. The most important relationship you will ever have is the one you have with yourself so nurture it.

Journal A lot of people find writing incredibly therapeutic. Getting thoughts down on paper, maybe starting a journal, can really help unclog your mind.

Kindness Be kind. Always. You will be calm and you will bring calm.

Listen One of the biggest communication issues is listening. Listen to others, listen to yourself and listen to the world. It will prevent a lot of hurdles and you will be surprised at what you may learn.

Meditation Taking the time to relax, re-connect and be present is one of the best things you can do for your mind and mental health. Start your day off right and practise on a morning.

No The power of no is amazing. You don’t always have to agree to everything. If you don’t want to do something, just say no. You will thank yourself for it later.

Open Open and honest communication is something to really be admired and being open really helps to reduce worry and stress.

Practise Just like with any new habit, results won’t be immediate. It takes time and it takes practise and it is so worth it.

Quotes Fill your life with positive quotes you can relate to. Those quotes that make you think ‘YES!’ and those quotes that make you feel good. The secrets to life are hidden behind the word cliche.

Reflect Don’t let life pass you by. Reflect on your day, reflect on your years. Indulge in your memories, cherish your moments and learn from your mistakes.

Self care It is so important to take care of yourself. Emotional needs, physical needs, spiritual needs, social needs and intellectual needs all need to be met. You can’t pour from an empty cup.

Time Spend your time wisely. Don’t let time run away from you, manage it correctly. Make sure your life has a great work/life balance.

Unburden Got something on your mind? Get it off. Talk it out with a friend or write it down. Sharing is caring.

Vibes Good ones only please. Radiate positive vibes.

Walk Walking is always underestimated. It’s physically great and it’s mentally great. You get to connect with nature, move your body and clear your mental cobwebs.

Xercise Exercise releases good endorphins. Need I say more?

Yoga Yoga is the perfect balance of exercise, meditation and you time. There is no right or wrong with yoga, you can practise anywhere, you can do it any time, there is zero stress and your only commitment is to the present moment.

Zen Make your life completely zen. Focus on your mind. Focus on your body. Focus on the present.

    What an inspired idea for a post! I have been toying with affirmations myself lately, I’m not really one for anything too cheesy (like you say, standing in the mirror talking about how much I love myself is a bit awkward) but positive thinking can go hell of a long way! I also couldn’t agree more about the power of no, it is something that I definitely need to remind myself about as I am always taking on too much and then feeling the pressure!
