ADVENT DAY 4: YORK CHRISTMAS MARKET

For the last week, Ash has been to visit me in England. We’ve had the best week but it’s passed by in a blur. I blinked and it was over. It went so fast but I loved every single second of it. For his first visit to me, I tried to plan some nice things to do to introduce him to the area and one of the things I decided on was York as I haven’t been for a long time and also have never been to their Christmas market.

We spent the day in York heading up there with my mum and dad, spending time together having coffees, eating lunch and browsing the Christmas market whilst the rest of the time, Ash and I wandered round the city by ourselves. We popped in and out of the shops, browsed markets, took in the view of the Cathedral and had a few cocktails.

York itself is incredibly festive. It is a very English city with a lot of culture, quaint little streets and rustic old buildings so that just adds to the Christmassy feel. All the shops are Christmassy, all the streets are Christmassy, everywhere is like Christmas landed in York and exploded. It’s a gorgeous little place to visit during the festive season and really helps get you in the festive spirit if you’re doing a spot of Christmas shopping.

Christmas markets are one of my favourite things about the festive season. I love exploring quirky little stalls, browsing gifts and sampling foods. Sipping mulled wine, listening to carolers and perusing the cutest stalls, it’s one of the things I love about Christmas (except on this market, I didn’t actually have any mulled wine). There is a great variety of stalls on offer plus the addition of camper vans and even a tipi serving winter drinks and festive food.

One thing about York is that it is buskers paradise, something which Ash was surprised at the amount of. On every corner, someone is singing or playing an instrument. This was great at the Christmas market as you had music playing and even a choir singing carols around the Christmas tree which really added to the mood.

Although it’s not the biggest market or the one with the most of offer, York is incredibly cute and festive to visit for a day of festive shopping. Whilst you’re there, take in some of the sights or pop to Evil Eye for a cocktail or two. Enjoy your day out!!
