The days are longer, the nights are shorter and (sometimes) the weather is warmer. Summer reads to me are ultimate, laid back relaxation. I love chilling in the sun with a girlie romantic read, it’s the genre I always fall back on. I have read an endless list of romance books over the years, particularly in the last three years by the pool. Whilst I no longer live in a hot country and a holiday is not on the cards for a while, I’m still swaying towards romance in the Summer months.

Are you a fan of the classic Summer romance read? Or do you tend to pick up another genre when you go on holiday?

Holidays are all about enjoyment so of course, I pick up my favourite genre. I’ve loved romance reads since I was a teenager and whilst I am trying more genres, I always fall back into romance. I also think that romance is generally so easy to read and when you’re on holiday, its much nicer to have a relaxing read than a mind-fuck.

Who’s your favourite romance author and what’s your favourite book by them?

I have so many I could list but I absolute adore Lindsey Kelk. I enjoy every single book I pick up by her. Her storylines are so simple and sometimes cheesy but I love the characters she creates and I love the relationships that blossom. I honestly couldn’t pick a favourite book by her but it would possibly be About a Girl.

Love triangles… yay or nay?

Nay, you just end up hating one of the characters who could be a perfectly good character if they weren’t involved in the love triangle. I also find that love triangles are often forced and quite often the storyline ends up farfetched. One corner ends up being portrayed as pathetic and I’m all about strong characters.

If you were stranded on an island, which book wouldn’t you want to be stuck with?

I have hated many books in my time but they were so unenjoyable that they are also unmemorable so nothing immediately springs to mind. Anything dull with overly sophisticated language would be a no go for me. If it is too much effort to read, I just can’t, I don’t have the motivation to pick it up and turn the pages.

If you were a character in a romance novel, what would be your dream love story?

It would definitely be set on a beautiful island with stunning weather. A friendship would develop into a beautiful Summer romance and then last a lifetime. Oh… wait, that’s my own love story. Ha, soppy! In all serious though, those types of storylines were also my favourite so I am very grateful that I have my own love story like this.

Billy and Me by Giovanna Fletcher

Billy and Me has been on my TBR list for a few years now. I’ve read other Giovanna Fletcher books and enjoyed them so it was a definite must to pick up.

Billy and Sophie’s lives are world’s apart. Sophie has never left her hometime and loves working in the local tea shop whilst Billy is a famous actor. They fall in love and Sophie finds she has to sacrifice a lot of her life and who she is to be with Billy. The story follows the highs and lows of their relationship, what could threaten to tear them apart and what keeps them together.

A very, lovely easy to read story which I finished very quickly. I found the story very familiar but definitely haven’t read it before. Whether I have read a similar storyline before I’m not sure but it was comforting to read something which felt familiar. Giovanna’s characters are very relatable and you could totally understand the viewpoints of all characters. The story really takes you on a journey and I love a book that shows great character development throughout.

If you’re looking for a relaxing, romantic read for the Summer, it is one I would definitely recommend you get your hands on.

I definitely try and steer clear of romance at all costs – I’m not a fan of the genre. I don’t mind romantic elements in books but if the whole book is about it I’m definitely not going to pick it up. I’m definitely more of a thriller girl! xxx

I love Billy and Me! I actually reviewed a Giovanna Fletcher book for this prompt too. I love Giovanna, but this is definitely one of my favourites of hers. There is a sequel to it which I loved as well. Im definitely with you on love triangles, like you said it takes away from the character that ends up being the third wheel for the majority of the story.

I am not the biggest fan of the romance genre but, I have to admit, when it’s a clever plot or I really like the characters that can be subject to change! And summer is the perfect time for some hot and steamy literature! x x x

We are definitely on the same page about love triangles, I also find them a bit too far-fetched! Generally romance isn’t a genre that I go for very often, but I think I need to give it a bit more of a go! I’ve read some Lindsey Kelk before and they are indeed great for a light and frothy summer read! I’ve heard such good things about Giovanna Fletcher’s books, all have to add this to my TBR!
