5 REASONS WHY I LOVE THE CALM APP

newproject_1_original-1-1

Back in October when I did my positivity challenge, I used the Calm app for my morning meditations and sleep stories. I don’t remember where I found it or why I downloaded it above others but I loved it so I have gone back to it.

At the moment, I am still using the free sections but I think it is so great that I am debating upgrading to unlock the rest of the app. I’d say the free sections probably give you about 3 weeks worth of material but you can repeat them as much as you want.

There are so many reasons I love the Calm app and these are just a few of them.

Daily meditation

All the meditations are split into courses which you follow for a time period for example 7 days of gratitude or 21 days of calm. It’s great motivation to return to complete the following day and by following a programme, you really feel like you’re achieving something.

The meditations are short at only 10 minutes long so it’s a quick and easy way to start you day without taking up too much time.

Tamara Levitt guides the meditations and she has a brilliant, soothing voice to help you relax anand stay focused.

Sleep stories

Before Calm, I didn’t even know sleep stories were a thing. Sometimes I struggle to stop my brain and wind down, instead laying and thinking for hours on end.

When this happens, I have been listening to sleep stories. They last between 20-30 minutes and I don’t remember the ending of any of them because I’m asleep before it has finished.

With the free app, there are only a handful of sleep stories available but this hasn’t been a problem for me yet as I don’t remember any of the stories anyway.

All the stories have different narrators for variety with well known names like Stephen Fry popping up amongst the narrations by Tamara Levitt.

Sleep stories have been great in helping me drift off.

Progress

At the end of each section, whether it be meditation or sleep story, it tells you your progress. The days you have used the app are marked off and it tells you how many hours total you have meditated for.

It also shows you your streak for returning daily. This is great motivation to push you to return the following day so you don’t lose your streak.

Daily quote

When you complete each section, you are given a daily quote before your progress. This helps to wrap up the session and gives you a positive affirmation to live by for the rest of the day.

Relaxing sounds

The app also has a music section which you can play in the background to help you relax whenever you need it. Honestly, I haven’t actually used the music section but I have used the app sounds.

You can pick you app homepage so the image and sound you choose is played when you open the app and in the background of your meditations.

There are a variety of sounds to choose from included lake side sounds and a flickering fire.

I like having the sounds playing in the background when I’m doing something or need to relax.

If you’re interested in meditating, having trouble sleeping or just in need of some music to help you relax, I would strongly recommended that you download the Calm app. It’s great and it’s free! I’m really loving using it and I’ll be sure to update if I upgrade.

I have always really struggled when it comes to meditating! It’s something I really want to do but I always feel like a dummy when I try. This app however sounds great and I’m definitely going to look into using.
The sleep stories sound great and I’m 100% going to try using them as I like listing to my audible app when I go to bed when I’m too tired to physically read!
    Another great post Steph!

I literally just left a comment on your other post where you mentioned sleep stories asking more about them, and my wish has already been fulfilled! I’m actually going to download this app tonight to see if they work for me, occasionally I do listen to a ASMR videos on YouTube to try and calm down my busy brain before sleep, but these stories sound like they work a lot better! Thank you for sharing your experiences, I am pretty much sold on the Calm app now!
