2018 GOALS

In 2017, I made small improvements to my life with cutting out Coca-Cola, reducing my alcohol consumption, eating slightly healthier and starting meditation. All of these things made a difference in their own way whether it be improving my mood, energy or even skin. In 2018, I want to up these goals and focus on ‘Year of You’. There are so many things I want to do but get lazy and lack the motivation to do them. By focusing on my physical and mental health as well as doing the things I love, I’m hoping that motivation will come at me like a tsunami.

Mindfulness

Over the past few months, I’ve really taken an interest in mindfulness. I set myself a positivity challenge in October in which I meditated daily, made a ‘rant book’ and wound down on an evening by either reading a book or listening to a sleep story. I don’t know if one thing alone made a difference or whether it was a combination of all three but I really noticed a difference to my mood. I’m really not a morning person but it was easier to get out of bed. It got to the point where I didn’t even need to write in the book any more, I just took a breath and let it go. And overall, I felt a lot more positive.

I really loved my morning meditations and so I am definitely going to get back into that. I currently use the free section of the Calm app but will probably upgrade once payday rolls around.

I will also be getting back into my evening routine of listening to a sleep story or reading before bed. I’ve bought myself several mindfulness books which I can snuggle up with and I was gifted plenty of reading material for Christmas so I’ve got loads to keep me going,

I don’t think I’ll be bothering with a rant book this time but instead, I’m going to be trying a gratitude journal. I bought a ‘One Line A Day’ book in which I am going to (try) to write one thing I am grateful for every day. I think this will be a great way to focus on the positives in life rather than the negatives, plus, with it being a 5 year journal, I can look back over time.

I have such a strong interest in mindfulness at the moment and really want to make it a big part of my life in 2018.

Health

Every year, every month and every week I think about being healthy. I do really well eating a balanced diet and then have one bad day where I think ‘fuck it’ then the chocolate and the Domino’s comes running back into my life. I want to make the effort to live a healthy life and enjoy the occasional treat rather than shovelling junk down my throat 24/7.

Exercise is something I have never been good at. I stick to it for a couple of days and then get bored but I really want to make the effort this year. I want to make sure I am active at least every other day. Even if I’ve had a long, stressful day and working out is the last thing on my mind, I want to go for long walks to clear the cobwebs. I’m lucky enough to live in apartment blocks for the majority of the year that have swimming pools so why am I not taking advantage of them? I’ve also committed myself to a 30 day yoga challenge for an article for The Growing Up Guide in order to help me kickstart the year off right!

In 2017, I gave up Coca-Cola which was a huge success. I found it easy to stick to, it boosted my energy and cleared my skin. I’m going to up this for 2018 and have no fizzy drinks. I pretty much live on green tea and water any way when I’m at home so have no idea why I suddenly order Fanta when I’m out… I wouldn’t buy a bottle and bring it home! My only exception will be an occasional treat of a non-alcoholic cocktail.

Blog

I loved blogging but I’m not the most organised when it comes to it. I don’t have thousands on scheduled posts written in advance and often stress about not have anything to write.

For 2018, I have bought myself a blogging diary so I can plan posts in advance and have back up ideas during quiet times. I am hoping this will help me stick to my schedule and not stress over content ideas.

I’m also going to be altering my schedule slightly. I’m going to change it from a 100% travel blog and add some mindfulness in there. My aim is to do Mindfulness Monday, Travel Thursday and if anything else springs to mind that I want to write about, I’ll post that on a Saturday.

I also want a new blog layout as in all honesty, I’m not a massive fan of my current one and need a change.

I am very excited for 2018 on this little corner on the internet with bundles of new content and a new look.

So there we have it, my 2018 goals. I hope you all had an amazing New Year and wish you all the luck in the world with your own 2018 goals!

Steph x

You have done an amazing job of smashing your 2017 goals, and it looks like 2018 will be no different for you! I love the idea of a Gratitude Journal and the line-a-day one sounds fab. I, like you, find it hard to get super organised with blogging but I’m really looking forward to your Mindfulness Mondays and Travel Thursdays! I’m so glad I discovered your blog, and extra glad I got to meet you IRL, too! Happy New Year lovely, I can’t wait to read all about your adventures over the coming months

I really need to start meditating every single day this year, It had been my goal for so long and I still have no idea why it’s so hard for me to find some motivation to do it. Actually it’s hard for me to find motivation for anything so what I’m thinking is that mindfulness is going to be an answer for the lack of motivation and then it’s just going to be a domino effect – well hopefully. Good luck with achieving everything you want in 2018!

So many wonderful goals for this year!
I have tried many times to meditate but honestly I just don’t think I’m doing it properly as I feel quite silly most of the time when I try. I also forget to take the time to do it, however it’s something I would like to get into. Reading before bed is something I’m really trying to implement in my life this year as I feel like I won’t read as much as I used to and I miss it!
I’m also going to try and live a healthier lifestyle this year! I want to get into running and so I’m going to start training when the weather warms up as I’d love to take part in local park runs!
I can’t wait to see some different posts as well as your travel posts (as I LOVE them) and I’m looking forward to see what new design you choose for your blog!

I meditate first thing in the morning when I wake up, if I leave it, I forget or don’t make the time.

Good luck with running. I’ve been interested in park runs but never had the motivation.

      Thank you lovely x

I am so intrigued by the “sleep stories” that you mention, what exactly are those? Are they specifically designed to make you feel sleepy? If so (and they actually work) I would absolutely love to try it out as I have been struggling to get to sleep in the last few weeks! The Year of You sounds like a fantastic premise to enter 2018 on! Loving the ideas of mindfulness post on Monday and travel on a Thursday, looking forward to seeing where those take you! I have always been rubbish at sticking to exercise routines as well but this year I have decided that I want to be a better runner, so I have downloaded the Strava app which I’m finding really motivating so far because it really closely tracks your progress! Best of luck with all of your goals, I have no doubt that you will succeed!

I don’t know if they’re specifically designed for that, I’d have to research into it but I assume so because they’re all so chill and soothing. Definitely work, I’m out for the count every time! Totally try it!

I’m easing myself into exercise slowly. I’ve started with a 30 day yoga challenge which I really enjoy because it’s a lot of laying on the floor haha xx
