Whilst living abroad is amazing, you can’t help but miss certain things from home. I don’t mean the obvious missing friends and family because of course, living abroad does leave a little family shaped hole in your life but I mean the little, stupid things that you take for granted back at home. Those things that are accessible to you on a daily basis that you don’t even realise you love and/or are grateful for until they’re not available for a little while. With returning home to the UK just a month away, these are some of the stupid little things that I am looking forward to being reunited with…
LUSH I’ve been quite lucky this year in the fact that we actually have a bath and to add the cherry on top, one that I’m actually willing to use. Baths have been few and far between due to the heat but I have enjoyed the occasional one this season but there is nothing like soaking in your favourite lush products!
LIBRARIES Once in a blue moon, a decent soul leaves behind a holiday read and when that happens, you cherish that reading material as if it were your first born until a new book arrives. Books are expensive here as all English language books are imported and you can forget about the possibility of lending an English book.
NANDO’S Speaks for itself!
RAIN It sounds ridiculous because when you live in England and all it does is rain, you get absolutely sick of the sight and sound of water droplets. Trust me though, when it hasn’t rained since March and the air is so sticky and hot, you pray for a downpour at sight of the slightest wafer of a cloud.
BRITISH FASHION Nothing like it, the end.
PRIMARK If God created clothing stores… I’m pretty sure my love affair with Primark will last a lifetime.
A PROPER CUP OF TEA Don’t get me wrong, tea in Cyprus isn’t too bad, particularly comparing it to tea in Tenerife (horrific) but it’s just not quite the same.
PARKS Summer picnics, Autumn walks, there’s nothing like a scenic stroll around a park.
SNACKS Trust me, UK snacks are great. So much choice, so many different varieties!
POTABLE WATER So much easier to grab a glass of council pop from the tap than have to lug 12 litres home.
THE PRICE OF GROCERIES Honestly, doing the food shop is pretty cheap in the UK, you can get some great buys. Spend 50€ here and you’ll only get enough to feed a small child breakfast.
A DECENT CHINESE TAKEAWAY It’s just not the same delicious goodness I can order back at home.
