Last week was my birthday. I am now a quarter of a century and I have entered a new age group. Goodbye 18-24! Over the years, I’ve done a lot, lived a lot, experienced a lot and with that, learnt a lot. Particularly over the last couple of years, I have learnt a lot about life and about myself. Granted, I’m still young and still have a lot to learn about life. I don’t have all the answers or know all of the secrets but these are just some of the secrets to life I have come to learn.
To start with, the secrets to life are hidden behind the word cliche. All of the corny quotes, all of the obvious answers, all of the things you find yourself rolling your eyes at, they’re a cliche for a reason. This reason is because they are based on truth and that is why the secrets to life are hidden behind some of the worlds biggest cliches.
You can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world and there will still be someone who doesn’t like peaches.
I tried a lot over the years to make everyone like me. I hated the idea of being unliked and would adapt who I was to fit other people. Sometimes this worked but a lot of the time it also didn’t work. If someone doesn’t like you, they just don’t like you. There is nothing you can do to change it. I’ve learnt it is better to be completely yourself and be disliked by a couple of people rather than be fake and be loved by everyone. It’s even worse if people only like you because you’re pretending to be someone else. You do you, honey!
Choose your own happiness.
You are in charge of your own happiness and if you don’t like something, change it. Don’t like your job, get a new one. Unhappy in your relationship, leave. Dream of travelling, do it. Happiness lies with you and the decisions that you make, do what is best for you.
You can achieve anything if you put your mind to it.
If you want something so badly then all you have to do is put in the work and you will see the results. Granted, this may take time. It could take days, it could take weeks, it could take months or years but if you want something enough, continually work at it and one day, it will all pay off. If you love what you’re doing, don’t quit. I would love this blog to reach a wider audience but just because it isn’t at the moment doesn’t mean I’m gonna stop. I love it so I’m just gonna keep on working harder (when I get some time!).
Be the change you wish to see in the world.
You’re just one person and of course, it’s unlikely you’re going to change the world but if you can just have a positive impact on one person, then that person could have a positive impact on another person and so on. If you think the world is mean and cruel and unfair then lead by example, be nice and be kind and be fair.
Actions speak louder than words
If you can talk the talk then you need to walk the walk, that’s what matters more. Words mean a lot but they can be tainted, manipulated and untrue. If you don’t have the actions to support your words, they mean nothing.
Love will find you when you least expect it
I know this to be 100% correct. There is no need to force it, just wait for it, it will come, it will surprise you but you will be happy and you will be confident that it is true.
When life gives you lemons, make lemonade
No matter how well prepared you are, life is always gonna throw some shit at you. It’s how you react to it and deal with it that matters. You can’t have a rainbow with a little rain and an arrow cannot shoot forward without being pulled back.
So these are just some of the quotes that are so cliche but I have found to be true. The secrets to life really are hidden behind the world cliche. I could add more so maybe we’ll have to have a sequel when I turn 26…
